One of the leading Insurance companies in Malawi, Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) and Airtel Malawi have unveiled a new product called Phuka Digital Savings with a call on Malawians to embrace the saving culture.

The unveiling ceremony came barely hours after Old Mutual partnered with singer and song writer Driemo who is scheduled to take a leading role in promoting the product.

Speaking after the launch at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre OMIG Managing Director, Mark Mkwamba urged Malawians to embrace the saving culture.

“Statics show than only 13% of adult Malawians have access to financial services in the country and this product has come to break the barrier that is there as everyone will now have that chance of investing through this product called Phuka Digital Savings.

“Phuka Digital Savings is easy to use and there is no need for our customers to visit Old Mutual offices. You just need to go on your phone and you will access the services. Minimum amount to invest through this product is Mk5, 000.00 only and you can dis-invest at any time,” said Mkwamba.

On her part Acting Managing Director of Airtel Money Virginia Jere assured Malawians that the digital platform is safe.

She then urged Malawians across the country to do their investment through Phuka Digital Savings.

“You do not even have to physically go to Old Mutual or Airtel offices in order to invest on this platform, you can do it all conveniently on the phone,” said Jere.

After the launch, officials from Old Mutual and Airtel took Phuka Digital Savings product to Ndirande Township where the companies engaged with customers.

The event was spiced up by a live performances from Driemo.
