Three major political parties in the country have asked the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to consider releasing a calendar of holding by-elections following the conviction of three ward councilors in Karonga in September this year.
Malawi Congress Party, Democratic Progressive Party and UTM feel releasing an electoral calendar will help the parties have ample time to prepare for the polls.
MCP Vice Chairperson for the North, Uchizi Mkandawire said the party is ready to field candidates in all the three wards with confidence of grabbing all the three seats.
On his part, DPP Regional Governor, Rev Christopher Mzomera Ngwira said the former governing party is in the process of identifying candidates to represent the party.
MEC Spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa says the electoral body is looking into preparatory logistics and modalities of holding the elections and will be submitting a request to treasury for funding.
