Police and education authorities in Rumphi have singled out  indiscipline among learners in both primary and secondary schools in the district as a major contributing factor to increasing cases of teen pregnancies, vandalism of school property and suicide.

Speaking today at Vwaza Community Day Secondary School during an engagement meeting with students on the same, Rumphi police station community policing coordinator Sub Inspector Ceaser Hara said most students lack discipline hence ending up trapped in such crimes.
Hara has urged the students to observe and maintain discipline to avoid being involved in criminal activities and achieve their goals.
Meanwhile Head teacher for the school Josephy Nkhata admitted that teachers are struggling to control learners these days due to indiscipline and he is hopeful that such interventions may bring positive impact on the students behaviour.
Last month, Katowo education zone recorded two deaths of female students who allegedly committed suicide for pregnancy related issues. One girl was from Vwaza Secondary School and one from Lumphawa Primary School.
