Psychologist Prof. Bandawe advises Malawians to embrace economic shocks caused by Kwacha devaluation.
He encourages acknowledging and adjusting to feelings of fear and confusion. Prof. Bandawe emphasizes that economic challenges don’t define personal worth, only impacting purchasing power.
“If people are feeling fearful, angry, and confused, they have to acknowledge the feeling. They have to adjust and look at other ways of dealing with the situation.”
“The economic situation does not define who you are as a person. It is your purchasing power that has been reduced, not your value as a person,” explained Professor Bandawe.
The Reserve Bank of Malawi’s 44% Kwacha devaluation has swiftly led to increased fuel and commodity prices.
