The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has handed over material to parliament that were used in the by election for councilor and MP in Mtiya Zomba and Dedza districts.

Speaking at the event which was held today at the parliament, MEC Commissioner Richard Chapweteka said that MEC has done this in accordance with the law of MEC which ask MEC to give materials that were used in the election to parliament.

Chapweteka said that this process helps people who have other complaints to be able to find evidence through the documents that are kept at the parliament.

In his words, the deputy parliamentary clerk Chikondi Kachinjika has confirmed that he has receive the materials and it will be kept until the end of 4 months while they are waiting to destroy it.

MEC held a by election to elect a councilor at Mtiya ward in September this year and Maxwell Finias of the Democratic Progress Party (DPP) won.

Willard Gwengwe of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) also won the by election in Dedza district.
