Police at Jenda in Mzimba District have arrested a 42-year-old Man, Mathews Mazi, on suspicion that he illegally connected electricity to his house when Escom officials had disconnected it some time back at Jenda in the district.

According to Jenda Police spokesperson Sub-Inspector Macfarlen Msetekw it is alleged that the suspect has a house at Jenda and was legally connected to electricity but after some time it developed a fault which prompted Escom officials to disconnect it this year end of October.

This did not go well with him and he made his own connection to the house using his own wires direct from the pole bypassing the meter and supplied every building around the compound unmetered including outside toilets which are not in a state of being connected to electricity.

Mseteka has told us tha on November 28, 2023 when Escom officials were going around Jenda updating metering system, they were tipped off that a certain man has connected electricity to his house illegally. After confirming the incident, Escom officials reported him to police whom later arrested Mazi for illegal connection of electricity and he will appear before court in due course.

Jenda police has since advised members of the community to avoid such practices as it is not only illegal but also endangers the lives of those living in houses which have been illegally connected as there is no control over the power supplied

Mazi hails from Kaunda Village in the area of Traditional Authority Simulemba in Kasungu District.
