Councilor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has said that the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will not be forced to hold the elective conference this coming December.

Chimbanga’s reaction follows the expiry of the 90 days court older.

In September this year, ordered the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to hold a convention within 90 days following a court file by DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa.

“The five years’ mandate of the current office bearers of the defendant’s National Governing Council and Central Committee has expired. Surprisingly, the July 2023 NGC meeting was bent on favouring the incumbent party president at the expense of complying with the court order. It was a sham and a threat to intra-party democracy,” reads part of the ruling.

The stated period is scheduled to expire this coming December but the party is yet to come up with date to hold the elective conference.

Writing on his official facebook page Chimbanga said: “DPP will not be forced to hold its Elective convention in December per the wishes of the sellouts.”

Meanwhile, it is yet to be seen as to what action Nankhumwa will take once the party fails to fulfil the court order.
