The suspended Nsanje district council accounts assistant, Geoffrey Thupilifana, grade M, who is suspected to have forged signatures on cash cheques is implicating the council’s senior officials.

Thupilifana alleges that seven cheques were cashed with the approval of the officials. He further claimed, Some funds have gone into the pockets of some officials in allowances.

The officer, who is currently on police bail, questions his arrest, arguing that the officials approved the transactions in the system. The suspended officer has also described it as surprising that the council is only highlighting two cheques.

The council’s spokesperson, Robert Nayeja, says they cannot comment on the allegations as the issue is being handled by the police.
