Universal Industries Limited is under police guard after workers downed tools this morning and sealed the gates to the workplace. The workers have been demanding a 100% increase in their monthly earnings.
The workers, who have been chanting songs against their management, claim that the salary that they receive is too little for them to survive.
According to a local radio station, the workers claim that they receive about MK 12,000 to MK 15,000 (about U$35) per month which is too little to keep them going.
Meanwhile, there has been no immediate response from the management of the company.
