Malawi’s boxing talent, Israel Kam’mwamba, is poised for a challenging bout in Zimbabwe as he competes against Aliya Phiri for the African Boxing Union (ABU) lightweight title on Friday.

Kam’mwamba recently clinched the World Boxing Federation (WBF) title by defeating Zimbabwean Evans Usayihwevhu in Chivhu, Zimbabwe, adding to the anticipation surrounding his upcoming match.

The Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board’s director of research and information, Gibson Chisale, has accompanied Kam’mwamba to Zimbabwe, where he will serve as one of the judges for the fight.

Expressing the significance of the match, Chisale highlighted that Kam’mwamba has the opportunity to showcase himself as a formidable lightweight boxer on the international stage.

Kam’mwamba’s recent victory in a non-title bout against Salimu Chazama further underscored his prowess in the domestic boxing scene, securing a technical knockout (TKO) in the fourth round.

Ahead of the title clash, Kam’mwamba, aged 29, affirmed that he is well-prepared for the challenging contest, aiming to add the ABU lightweight title to his growing list of accomplishments.
