A court in Kasungu has adjourned the hearing of a case involving six Malawians and 21 Ethiopian nationals accused of human trafficking and illegal entry.

The suspects were arrested earlier this week following a tip-off. Kasungu police deputy publicist, Miracle Mkozi, explained that the Ethiopian nationals failed to produce travel documents when asked, leading to their arrest.

The suspects were scheduled for formal charges on Thursday, but the proceedings couldn’t start due to a communication breakdown.

It was noted that the 21 Ethiopian nationals don’t understand English, requiring an interpreter, leading the court to adjourn the case to Friday, December 8, 2023.
