The Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) security team successfully thwarted a robbery attempt and apprehended a private guard allegedly found in possession of construction materials at the university’s state-of-the-art laboratory project.
The incident occurred last night, and although the caught guard is under interrogation, the remaining suspects are currently on the run after fleeing the scene.
According to James Mphande, MUST’s communications manager, the guards involved were contracted by a Chinese contractor overseeing the project.
The organized theft was uncovered after a tip-off, prompting the university security team to take action.
The police and the contractor are yet to provide official comments on the matter.
