Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has urged the Tonse Alliance administration to stop paying lip service to serious issues affecting the country instead of implementing policy changes.
In his concluding statement as Parliament adjourns sine die today, Nankhumwa for instance observed that tourism can be a sector contributing to forex generation but tourist visas are the most expensive in the region.
Said Nankhumwa:”Exorbitant visa fees as well as long and cumbersome visa application processes contribute to making Malawi a less attractive destination compared to other destinations within the region, denying us an easy opportunity to generate forex.”
Nankhumwa has also faulted President Lazarus Chakwera for continuing to send soldiers on peacekeeping missions without adhering to the law saying the President needs to first declare state of national defence and also inform Parliament as per Section 161(7,8,9)of the Constitution.
