The number of people suffering from AIDs in Mulanje district is low as compared to previous years.
This has been known through the AIDs commemoration ceremony which was held on 19 December this year at Gambula primary school in Mulanje district.
Chairman of the district council, Thokozani Namoyo said that his council is working hard to fight the epidemic of this disease.
The head of nutrition at the council, Whitney Kondowe said that the fight against AIDs in Mulanje district is difficult because of the border with Mozambique, but they are doing their best to work with different organizations to stop the spread of the disease.
AIDs epidemic commemoration day is held on 1 December every year and Mulanje district has organized it’s on Tuesday this week under the theme “Everyone should take part in leading Love and Unity in the fight against HIV and AIDs.”
During the event, there were activities like dances, poetry and songs prepared by learners of different schools and it brought together various officials such as the governor of Mulanje district, the chairman of the council, representatives, chiefs and religious leaders.
