The Industrial Global Union has asked the Tonse Alliance government through the Ministry of Labour to reverse suspension of 14 employees of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) who are suspected of leading the recent strike.

ESCOM employees two weeks ago went on a national wide strike pushing for a pay rise following the devaluation of the kwacha by 44 percent.

The disgruntled ESCOM workers wanted the government to hike their salaries by 44 percent and not 10 percent as is the case at the moment.

In retaliation, management suspended 14 employees and notable faces on the list included; Staff Union President Charity Harawa, Secretary General William Mnyamula, Vice President Alex Harawa and others.

The development has forced the Industrial Global Union to intervene on the matter by asking the Ministry of labour to reverse the action.
