Mponela Police Spokesperson MacPatson Msadala confirmed the arrest of three individuals in Dowa District.
The trio—Precious Kenani aged 30, Jonas Lukiyo aged 29, and Victor Phiri aged 25—were apprehended at the Chinsepo Depot.
Authorities received a tip-off about the suspects hoarding 158 National Identity Cards intended for the Affordable Inputs Program (AIP).
Upon acting on the information, the police discovered the suspects in possession of the IDs, alongside a sum of K2,356,000 and 38 bags of Urea fertilizer.
The arrests were made following reports that the individuals were planning to use the IDs for illicit gain in the AIP.
The trio faces charges after being found with the national IDs, cash, and fertilizer bags at the depot, marking a significant fraud attempt within the farm inputs scheme.
