Confirming the incident , Sub Inspector Noel Kamchenga, the district’s police spokesperson, stated that Stephano Banda, aged 38, was arrested for allegedly stabbing Fumbanani Kaonga to death in suspicion of an affair with his wife at Pachichi near Chinyolo area in Rumphi.

In 2020, Banda had been arrested for possessing a Pangolin and was remanded to Karonga prison, leaving behind his wife and child.

Later, the wife secured employment as a cleaner at a Chinese construction company (Chicco) to support herself, where it’s reported she developed a relationship with Kaonga.

After Banda’s release from prison in April 2023, he returned to Rumphi only to discover that his wife and child had vacated their home and were renting a room at Pachichi.

Upon finding his family with Kaonga yesterday, a violent altercation ensued, leading to the fatal stabbing of Kaonga by Banda.

The incident serves as a tragic consequence of the alleged love affair between Banda’s wife and Kaonga, resulting in the latter’s untimely death.

The altercation and subsequent murder stemmed from Banda’s suspicion that Kaonga was involved in an affair with his wife, culminating in a fatal confrontation at Pachichi in Rumphi.
