Two Ascent Soccer Academy youngsters, Levison Munyenyembe and Precious Kapunda, have secured trials at Iceland second division side, Afturelding for the next three months.

According to the academy’s Founder, George Maguire, the two, both aged 18, have landed the opportunity after impressing during a tournament in Iceland last July where the academy team reached the final finals.

Maguire has expressed optimism that Munyenyembe, a tenacious and versatile winger-cum striker, who has the ability to use either foot, and Kapunda, an excellent ball holding and passing midfielder, will excel in their trials.

The two joined the academy at age 12 and have gone through all the nursery ranks and performed well during the academy’s tour of South Africa where the team defeated Under-20 sides for Mamelodi Sundowns and Super Sport United.

Since its inception in 2018, the residential academy has produced over 20 players who have had the opportunity of international exposure and contributed some five players to the Scorchers senior team which won the COSAFA Women Championship title in South Africa last year.
