The National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) has revealed that all degrees obtained from unaccredited Cyprus and Jerusalem institutions are not valid.
This follows the court ruling in Lilongwe, which empowered the council to order Gusto Gadama either to attend court sessions for several years or pay a hefty fine of 3.4 million Kwacha for operating unaccredited higher learning institutions.
The spokesperson, Rodrick Michongwe, complained that Gadama’s actions endangered the quality of education in the country.
Assistant Superintendent Isaac Kadawayula, a government representative at the Malawi Police Service headquarters, stated that as a fugitive, Gadama might not be able to pay the fine, and he must face the consequences in court.
Currently, the NCHE director, Ambumulire Phiri, maintains that the court ruling is fair and necessary for other institutions that operate without proper accreditation from their respective bodies.
However, he expressed concern that many people in the country continue to waste their money on education from unaccredited institutions.
