President Lazarus Chakwera is today  expected to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he will attend the inauguration ceremony of DRC leader Felix Tshisekedi and hold one-on-one talks with him.
The trip is coming barely two months after Chakwera announced a suspension of all public-funded international trips for himself and senior government officials until the end of the current financial year.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs dated 18th January 2024, That Face Of Malawi Have seen, indicates the President has temporarily suspended his public engagements in the Southern Region to undertake “this unscheduled trip”.
The President is expected to depart for Kinshasa, DRC, through Chileka Airport on Friday19th January 2024 and  return home on Sunday 21 January 2024 through the same airport for the resumption of tour duty  in the southern region, reads the statement.
