One of the expelled Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) senior officials Ken Msonda has said their expulsion is a political suicide for the former governing party.

Apart from Msonda, DPP President Peter Mutharika has expelled his advisors Kondwani Nankhumwa and Cecelia Chazama as well as Vice president for the Central Region Gelselder Jeffrey.

Mutharika has also sacked other National Governing Council-NGC members namely Nicholas Dausi, Mark Botomani, Fredrick Billy Malata, Fortune Simeon Phiri and Otria Jere.

Their expulsion follows a disciplinary hearing held in Lilongwe two weeks ago over alleged misconduct after holding an NGC meeting which had set dates for an elective convention, without Mutharika’s consent.

Msonda has since told press that the disciplinary hearing was a kangaroo court, arguing that the leadership was supposed to offer an olive branch to them.

He has also indicated that he has withdrawn his apology offered to DPP leader Peter Mutharika during the NGC meeting held in Mangochi last month.
