Police at Mponela in Dowa have on Friday arrested three Congolese nationals for illegal entry into the country.
Public Relations Officer for Mponela Police Station, Macpatson Msadala, identified the three as Husseni Mshada, 26, Lookman Mshonda aged 24, and 18-year-old Johali Mshonda, who all come from Luvingi Province, Luvila in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to Msadala, on January 19 at around 4 p.m, police received information from well-wishers that three people who were suspected to be foreigners, had been dumped at Mponela Mount Meru Filling Station.
“The three were arrested and when interviewed, they revealed that they were from DRC and going to Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa. They had entered Malawi through Songwe Boarder on January 14, 2024 using unchartered routes,” said Msadala.
The three suspects are expected to appear before court to answer charges of entering the country illegally.
