Police at Area 3 in Lilongwe has  arrested two men and  impounded a vehicle they were using, on suspicion that they have been posing as taxi operators, attacking and robbing unsuspecting passengers’ property.
Spokesperson for Lilongwe police, Hestings Chigalu, has identified the suspects as Alick Kazembe aged Moses Mponda.

According to Chigalu, the two were operating as a taxi using a Swift motor vehicle registration number LA 8878, the suspects, alongside two others, offered a lift to a certain man (name withheld), at MRA roundabout at around 20:00 hours on January 21, 2024.
He was on his way to Kabudula Trading Centre.
However, upon arrival at Balon Estate along the road, the suspects attacked and robbed the victim assorted items all valued at K700 thousand.
After receipt of the complaint, Lilongwe Police detectives instituted investigations that led to the arrest of the two suspects, and recovery of MSCE, Diploma, and Medical Council certificates, and clothes, among others.
However, the law enforcers have launched manhunt for the other suspects is underway.
They will appear in court soon to answer robbery charges.
Alick Kazembe is 42year-old hails from Malenya Village, Traditional Authority (Makanjira), Mangochi, and Moses Mponda is 35 hailsfrom Madzianyanja Village, T/A M’bwatalika in Lilongwe District
