Police in Chiradzulu is keeping in custody 14 people for suspecting them that they allegedly steal macadamia nuts worth K14.5 million for Sable Farming in the district.

Spokesperson for Chiradzulu Police Cosmas Kagulo, has confirmed the development, saying the suspects were arrested on the night of January 27 and 28, 2024, following a raid operation that Chiradzulu Police conducted around Yasin Trading Centre.

The station has been receiving numerous reports that people around Yasin and Thomas Trading Centres are stealing the nuts over a period of time, said Kagulo.

Following the report, police organized the raid leading to the arrests of the suspects and managed to recover 1,287 kilograms of the nuts.

The suspects, whose ages range from 20 to 60, will soon appear before court of law to answer the charges leveled against them.

Eleven suspects are from the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Likoswe, while the other three hail from T/A Mpama in Chiradzulu District.
