Thirteen-year-old James Mbendera, who suffered the traumatic loss of his right arm and two fingers on his left hand after alleged mistreatment while in police custody, faced further medical challenges.

Recently, doctors had to amputate the remaining fingers on his left hand due to the severity of his injuries.

This development adds to the already harrowing ordeal that James has endured, as he remains hospitalized at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

His auntie, Rhoda Justin, shared that James continues to receive medical care as he recovers from the surgeries.

The incident occurred four weeks ago when James was accused of theft by a local businessman in Dzenje and subsequently subjected to alleged abuse, including having his limbs restrained with a rubber belt.

While two police officers were arrested for negligence, there are ongoing questions regarding the accountability of the businessman involved in the incident.
