Mwanza Police this week arrested a 36-year-old Mike Banda for impersonating a civil engineer working under Ministry of Lands, claiming to have been assigned to provide technical support at the newly launched Mwanza Stadium.
Mwanza Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Hope Kasakula said Banda was also found with fake documents, which he used to show people, claiming that he was capable of assisting in obtaining visas and securing jobs in foreign countries like Israel.
Fellow workmates at the construction site tipped Mwanza Police after becoming suspicious of Banda’s behaviour and claims, and police arrested him on Wednesday immediately after the tip.
The police have, in the process of investigations, discovered that he duped a renowned prophet in the district into losing his K15,000 and a suit.
Banda is expected to appear before the court soon to answer charges of impersonating a public servant, theft and forgery, according to Mwanza Police.
Banda comes from Mpita Village, in the area of Traditional Authority Mposa in Machinga.
