Police in Mangochi have shot dead a suspected notorious criminal, identified as Allen M’bwana, after he wounded a police officer while resisting arrest in the early hours of today around Makawa area.

Mangochi Police Station Spokesperson, Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, has told Zodiak that M’bwana an ex-convict, had been wanted by police in Mangochi and Liwonde in connection with a series of break-ins in the two areas.

Inspector Tepani Daudi said, on Sunday morning, officers from Makokola Police raided his house following a tip from community members, but after knocking on his door, M’bwana took time to open it and later emerged with breaking equipment.

“He threw a homemade iron spear, wounding one officer on the right arm, before he fled the scene, prompting the team to shoot in the air, but one stray bullet landed on his right leg, and collapsed,” said Daudi.

Both were rushed to Mangochi District Hospital, where the officer is being treated, while M’bwana succumbed to his injuries due to loss of blood, According to inspector Tepani Daudi.
