FORMER Zambia Air Force commander Ronnie Shikapwasha’s widow Jane Lusengo has been committed to the High Court for trial in a case she is accused of killing the retired Lieutenant General.

The 73-year-old housewife is charged with murder, which can earn her upto life imprisonment.

She is accused of having shot her husband on January 15, 2024 using a double barrel shotgun at the couple’s Ibex Hill home.

After the alleged shooting, the 76-year-old former cabinet minister was rushed to Maina Soko Military Hospital where he died.

Ms Lusengo was later arrested and charged with murder.

Yesterday, the sombre looking accused appeared in court wearing a black outfit and a blue pullover with a black chitambala(head wrap).

Lusaka magistrate Keegan Litiya then readout the charge to the accused whom in response said “I do understand the charge”.

A public prosecutor then informed the court that the letter to have the accused committed to the High Court for trial was ready before court.

“The offence the accused stands charged with is tried by the high. Instructions for summary trial are before the High Court,” Magistrate Litiya said before committing the woman to the High Court for trial.

The accused, carrying a plastic with some food, was later taken back to correctional facility using the kasalanga(prison car).
