Fiscal and Fraud police in Lilongwe have apprehended Quresh Nadeem Dawood, a supervising contractor associated with Building Masters, on suspicion of misappropriating K182 million allocated by the government for the construction of a girls’ hostel at Mwansambo CDSS in Nkhotakota.
Confirming the arrest, National Police Publicist Peter Kalaya disclosed that Dawood faces charges including theft by servant, uttering a fake document, and issuing a document without authority.
The Ministry of Education disbursed funds to Dawood’s company in 2023 for the hostel project, but upon inspection by a supervisory team, no progress was evident at the construction site.
Dawood’s arrest highlights concerns over the misuse of government funds allocated for crucial infrastructure projects, prompting authorities to take swift action against alleged financial malpractice.
He will appear before court soon.
