Busy with elevating chiefs, launching shelters for pregnant woman, launching boreholes drilling projects and other trivial issues in a Presidential diary, Malawi President Joyce Banda last Friday shunned the inauguration of the Malawi Univeristy of Science and Technology (MUST) in THyolo district.

MUST, a brain-child of Banda’s predecessor – Bingu wa Mutharika, was constructed by the Chinese government and was handed over to the Malawi government on Friday at a ceremony that never carried the pomp that chief’s elevation carries in modern Malawi politics as championed by Joyce Banda.

Meanwhile, the University has started calling for applications from prospective students and it is expected to open its doors next year.
