The Theatre Attendant at Rumphi District Hospital, Harry Kumwenda, has been taken into police custody for allegedly stealing surgical gloves, examination gloves, and a theatre department ordering book.

According to Rumphi Police Station Spokesperson Sub Inspector Noel Kamchenga, Kumwenda, 43, was apprehended at RU 2 Roadblock in the District yesterday.

The stolen items, valued at K133,276, include essential medical supplies crucial for patient care.

Kumwenda, hailing from Chikalamba Village in T/A Chikulamayembe in the district, is facing charges of theft by a public servant.

The incident comes amid a series of theft cases at the hospital, which has been grappling with challenges following a fire that damaged the Pharmacy building in October last year.
