Police in Kasungu have arrested two men for allegedly being found in possession of two pieces of ivory weighing 16.6 kilograms.

Spokesperson for Kasungu police, Joseph Kachikho has identified the two as Grave Nkhoma 48 and Nickson Nthukwa 50.

Kachikho says wildlife and park officials got a tip that Nkhoma and Nthukwa killed an elephant in Kasungu National Park prompting a joint operation with Kasungu police leading to the arrest of the two.

Police say they have confiscated 2 pieces of ivory weighing 16.6 kilograms,one muzzleloader, 17-6 bore cartilages,12-16 bore bullets, 7 locally made bullets and 1 hoof print of an elephant.

Grave Nkhoma hails from Kamuna Village and Nickson Nthukwa is from Kanthonguru Village, all in TA Chulu in Kasungu.
