Lilongwe Senior resident Magistrate court has convicted and sentenced a 27 year-old man to 10-years and 5-years, respectively, imprisonment with hard labour for housebreaking and theft.

Deputy spokesperson for Lingadzi police station Constable Maria Kumwenda has confirmed the arrest and identified the convict as Madalitso Phiri.

Appearing in court, State prosecutor Sergeant Moses Stephano told the court that Phiri committed the offenses on April 14th, 2024 at Area 49 Dubai in Lilongwe.

“The convict broke into and entered the dwelling house of Madalitso Kawalika with the intent to commit a felony therein, and at the same time he managed to steal two bails of sugar, a plasma screen, and soap, all items worthy of MK420,000,” Said Kumwenda.

The convict, pleaded guilty to the charges of housebreaking and theft orderd to spend 10 years in prison.
