The Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Chimwaza has adjourned the NOCMA fuel case involving former Minister of Energy Newton Kamba and others to June 17-19, 2024.
The case resumed today where the defence continued cross-examining principal state witness Hellen Buluma, former NOCMA Deputy Chief Executive officer.
Speaking after the cross examination, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General Martha Chizuma told the court that the state requires two and a half days to re-examine Helen Buluma.
Chizuma stated that despite the defense’s twelve days of cross-examination, nothing has undermined the ACB’s case.
Additionally, the ACB plans to bring three more witnesses to testify.
Kambala, former Minister of Energy, Enoch Chihana, president for Alliance for Democracy, and Chris Chaima Banda, presidential advisor, are answering charges of attempting to influence a public officer in fuel procurement, contrary to the provisions of the Corrupt Practices Act.
