Police in Limbe have launched a manhunt on unidentified man who allegedly strangled to death a 32-year-old woman, Rose Machokolo, from Mondiwa Village in Bangwe, Blantyre.

Deputy Spokesperson for Limbe Police Sub-inspector Chibisa Mulimbika, has confirmed the development and said on Thursday, Machokolo received a male visitor from Lilongwe on Wednesday April 20, 2024.

According to Mulimbika, the deceased was staying with her younger sister and on this particular day she told her go and stay at their grandmother’s house who lives around the same area.

He said the deceased was last seen by her younger sister on the night of April 20 and was discovered in a decomposed state in her house Wednesday afternoon, April 24.

“After noticing bad smell, the deceased’s landlord called Limbe Police Station whose officers immediately rushed to the scene where they found Machokolo lying dead in a decomposed state with a rope around her neck.

“We assume that she was murdered the same night she hosted the man,” said Mulimbika.

Postmortem established that death was due to suffocation, secondary to strangulation.Meanwhile, investigations are underway to arrest the suspect.
