Illovo sugar Malawi has lost 100 thousand metric tonnes of sugar yield at Dwangwa Illovo estate following the recent floods that happened in Nkhotakota district.

This has been disclosed by the general manager for the company Maclean Debwe at Ngala Lakeland school camp where the company donated 4000 bags of maize floor worth K220 million to flood victims.

Debwe emphasized that the company’s business growth should come together with the lives of communities in the area as the floods have made many people homeless in the district.

He further said that they are not sure if the loss will affect the sugar production this year.

Meanwhile, the relief and rehabilitation officer for Nkhotakota district council, John Manda said the development has come in time as the victims are finding it difficult to have their daily necessities.

“People are suffering here and we are appealing to authorities to help relocate the victims so that the people can resume their normal lives and be productive again” Manda said.

Over 580 households are currently residing at two camps in the district
