Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Masauko Chamkakala is scheduled to drop the corruption case involving State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima.
The development comes barely days after the Court in Lilongwe rescheduled the case to this coming Friday without any apparent reasons.
According to inside sources, the case will be dropped based on n “admissibility of some evidence” and fear of compromising national security.
It is said that the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament will be informed of the development any-day this week.
Chilima’s lawyer is yet to comment on the matter.
Chilima was arrested in November 2022 after being named among 84 individuals suspected to have received bribes from Sattar, according to a report the ACB submitted to President Chakwera in 2022.
The report also led to President Chakwera suspending all delegated duties to Chilima.
