Police in Mchinji have arrested five people on allegations that they masterminded the death of Maxwell Weston, 35, who was killed by an angry mob on suspicion that he stole five chickens.

The incident according Mchinji police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira, occurred over the weekend at Chidaona village in T/A Kawere in the border district.

The suspects have been identified as Charles Gidala, aged 48, Chimtumbira Njanje 33, Happy Juma 28, Dala Nkhoma 29 and Zakeyo Yofumaki, aged 25.

Mpinganjira said Gidala, who is the owner of the chickens, found the suspect with the chickens in question, upon noticing the missing of the same, before mobilizing other community members.

Weston hailed from Chidaona village under T/A Kawere in Mchinji district.
