Huawei, a Chinese technology company, has donated smart office equipment worth approximately 55 million Kwacha to the Ministry of Information.
Huawei Technologies Managing Director in Malawi, Gu-Mu, said that the donation is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the Malawian government in achieving its development goals, nothing that ICT plays a crucial role in this endeavor.
Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu said he believes that the teleconferencing equipment will help efficiency and reduce travel costs associated with international meetings as some can now be attended virtually.
Kunkuyu urged Huawei to increase access to affordable and reliable digital smart devices for Malawians.
The items are part of a larger gift donated by the firm to the Malawian government following President Lazarus Chakwera’s visit to Huawei’s headquarters in China last year.
