Iceland Prime Minister Bjarni Benedikitsson said his government is committed to continue supporting Malawi’s development efforts.
The Prime Minister was saying this earlier today at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during a joint press briefing that held with President Lazarus Chakwera.
Benedikitsson said his government intends to expand the support it is providing to Malawi.
“The Iceland government will extend to a third district in the country. Currently district benefiting are Mangochi and Nkhotakota” said Benedikitsson.
He highlighted on the need for accountability to ensure continued success. And there is need to promote accountability of resources.
The Iceland government is mostly focusing its supports towards health and education sector which are key for the development of the country.
And on his part President Lazarus Chakwera commended the Iceland government for the support but also commended the Prime Minister for honoring his invitation to visit Malawi.
The president added that he invited the Prime Minister to show appreciation for the support that Iceland government is providing to Malawi but also celebrate together the 35 years relationship that two governments have had.
Chakwera concluded that he wanted the Iceland Prime Minister to see for himself the impact of the support that Iceland is providing to Malawi.
