Zomba District Youth Officer, Sophie Mzunga has called on non-governmental organizations to be implementing youth economic empowerment interventions in the district.
She said such initiatives have potential to make the youths productive.
Mzunga was saying this when an NGO, Passion Center for Children presented certificates and startup equipment to 20 youths it trained in vocational technical skills.
The organisation’s director, Pastor Saul Mateyo said they believe training youths in vocational skills can address the high unemployment levels amongst the youth.
The youths were trained in bricklaying, carpentry, tailoring and fashion designing.
