Salima Sugar Company Limited has purchased four sugarcane grab loaders in an effort to boost sugar production at the company.

Company’s board chairperson Wester Kosamu said they aim to curb sugar scarcity across the country hence the development.

“The company was facing slow production of sugar as it had two grab loaders only” said Kosamu.

The company’s Harvest and Transport Manager, Samson Tsitsi, said they have managed to harvest 36,000 tons of sugar since the commencement of the 2024-2025 crushing season using the already existing grab loaders.

He added that the production will likely double following the purchase of the new equipment.

The four sugarcane grab loaders from South Africa, are valued at K600 million.
