Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has completed the recovery phase of its response to the Tropical Cyclone Freddy after constructing 136 multi-hazard resilient houses for some of the affected communities
According to Felix Washon, communication specialist for MRCS, the houses have been constructed at a cost k1.2 billion
Speaking after a tour of some of the houses in the districts, Washon said apart from the two districts MRCS has also constructed the houses in Mulanje, Blantyre and Zomba and the social cash transfer amounting k2.2 million and 500 goats has been distributed to 100 families who were affected by cyclone.
Meanwhile, Some of the beneficiaries, Fagesi Chiwaula from Nchenga Village in Phalombe and Margret Linje from Chemusa Village in Chiradzulu, have expressed gratitude to MRCS for the houses, pointing out that they feel much safer and at peace.
