The Rumphi Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has convicted and sentenced a 19 year old boy to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.
The court through stare prosecutor Sergeant Frank Chisi heard that between the night of April 11 and April 12, 2024. The boy broke into the house of the victim and stole a Redmi cellphone valued at K150, 000.00.
The matter was reported to Rumphi Police Station and upon investigation, police arrested the boy on April 23, 2024 and recovered the stolen phone.
The man pleaded guilty to both counts of burglary and theft and he prayed for leniency, saying he has been committing such cases unknowingly and unintentionally.
Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Issa Maulidi sentenced the convict to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour on the first count and 2 years on the second count and the sentence are to run concurrently.
The man has been identified as Isaac Theba, of Luka Village under Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe.
