A one year old child has drowned after falling into Rukuru River at Tchelezi village in the area of Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba District.
Jenda Police station publicist, MacFarlane Mseteka says the child’s parents went to water plants at their garden which is along Rukuru river when their child who was playing at a distance went missing.
Mseteka adds that the couple started searching for the child but were not successful.
She was later found floating in the river 50 metres away from where she was last seen.
“Postmortem conducted at Jenda Rural Hospital has revealed that death was due to suffocation secondary to drowning and investigations are underway to have all facts known,” Mseteka said.
