The High Court in Mzuzu has convicted and sentenced a 36-year-old man, to 35 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour for defiling two 11-year-old girl.

The convict, has been identified as Vitumbiko Chirwa who committed the offence in August, 2023 in the district.

According to state prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Isaac Imedi, Chirwa invited to his house the two minors when he found them drawing water at a borehole and threatened to kill them with a knife should they dared reveal.

“The two revealed to their parent after being noticed with staggering movement, resulting to Chirwa’s arrest and charged with two counts of committing sexual intercourse with female children contrary to section 138 (1) of the penal code,” said Imedi.

Appearing before the NKhata-Bay Senior Magistrates’ Court earlier under the Senior Resident Magistrate Mateo Chitha, Chirwa denied the case, prompting the state to parade seven witnesses who proved him guilty according to Imedi.

This resulted to his conviction on both counts by the Magistrates’ Court which committed the case to the High Court which has sentenced him to 35 years IHL on each count to run concurrently.

Vitumbiko Chirwa hails from Nyoloni Village in Senior Chief Mankhambira in Nkhata-Bay District.
