The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has today released a press statement urging the president Lazarus Chakwera to uphold the constitution by appointing the country’s vice president following the demise of his vice the late Dr Saulos Chilima.
According to NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe, when appointing a Vice president he must make sure that the person has the national interest at heart and should be ready to contribute towards the development of the country and national healing among other characters.
Meanwhile, President of Malawi Law Society Patrick Mpaka in a separate interview pointed out that there is need for the president to fulfill what the constitution holds by filling the gap in the administration of the country.
However Kondowe has urged the president not to bow to political pressure when making the choice for the vice president.
Under Sections 84 (2) and 88 of the Constitution of Malawi, the President is required to appoint a Vice President within seven days from the date the vacancy arose.
