A Malawian, Dr. Khwima Nthara, has been appointed as the World Bank Group country manager in Papua New Guinea.
The Group has announced the news on its website, further stating that Dr. Nthara’s appointment will unify country-level leadership across the institution to better support Papua New Guinea’s public and private sector priorities.
In an interview with Zodiak, Dr. Nthara says the new role shows the trust that the group has in him, and it is also a positive development for Malawi.
Dr. Nthara has been the World Bank Country Manager for Papua New Guinea since 2023. As World Bank Country Manager, he was only responsible for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA).
But now, as World Bank Group Manager, he is a single point of contact for access to the full breadth of World Bank Group products and services, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in Papua New Guinea.
He joined the World Bank in 2005, and he has served in various capacities.
