Police in Kanengo, Lilongwe, have arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of stealing various goods from the Bayer Seed Processing Company in the city. Kanengo Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said the man, Prince Gift Makoma Phiri, was part of a group of individuals suspected of committing the theft on the night of the 2nd and 3rd of this month.

“The suspects tied up two security guards at the premises using rope and stole six computers, five tablets, and several smartphones, the value of which is currently unknown,” Ngwira explained.

Ngwira stated that the police officers on night duty arrested Phiri in the forest near Lilongwe Teacher Training College. The suspect is said to have been found with some of the stolen items as well as tools believed to have been used in the theft.

“Our investigation is ongoing to arrest Phiri’s accomplices and recover the remaining stolen property,” Ngwira added.
