Barely a day after ex-Vice President of the Peoples’ Party for the South, Sidik Mia, resigned from the party and his ministerial position, the President has replaced him.

According to a press statement from the state house, Mia has been replaced with Ulemu Chilapondwa, MP.

Mia resigned yesterday from the party amidst allegations that he had been frustrated after President Banda had indicated that she was not settling for him as Vice President but will instead opt for Brown Mpinganjira.

Whereas Mia himself has said that he will communicate on his next political move, reports have linked him to the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) where they say he will be offered the running mate position to Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

Other rumours have further linked him to going back to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which he ditched soon after the death of its former leader, Bingu wa Mutharika.
